As the important Rajya Sabha elections for the 16 seats in 4 states get underway amid claims of cross-voting and horse-trading, 41 users from 11 states have already been elected unopposed. Previous Union Finance minister and Congress leader P Chidambaram from Odisha and Congress’ Rajiv Shukla from Bihar are some of the prominent names that have been elected unopposed to the Upper Home.
Previous Congress stalwart Kapil Sibal, who had announced his exit from the bash on the day of filing his nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha, also gained unopposed from Uttar Pradesh. Sibal experienced submitted his nomination as an Unbiased applicant with the backing of the Samajwadi Occasion.
Opposition-dominated states like Rajasthan and Maharashtra are established to witness a near fight, whilst a person seat in Karnataka will see a a few-way contest as the ruling BJP, and allies Congress and JD(S) have all fielded their respective candidates.
